I'm Jake and I manage New Life Clothing. Please take
your time and have a good look around the website. I hope
you'll find many treasures and bargains in the following
pages and look forward to serving both you and our
community through this project.
The process of transition entails any number of new
phases in our lives, one of which inevitably involves the
creation of a whole new wardrobe. Whilst this can be an
exciting time as we discover the joy of buying and
wearing clothing to match the sex/gender we know
ourselves to be, it can also be an inherently expensive
process - especially if we’re in the position of
having to replace an entire wardrobe.
As a newly-emerging transman one of the things
I’ve found most gratifying are the physical changes
occurring in my body. However, this inevitably leads to
one unintended side-effect - these changes have also
necessitated a seemingly continual change in wardrobe as
my waist, back, shoulders, and neck continue to grow ever
larger. Since I hate waste of any kind I hit on the idea
for New life Clothing.
My idea is simple. I intend to create a means through
which all transmen, transwomen, gender variant people,
their friends, family, and supporters can put their old
clothing to use, and in the process help out our
community. Essentially, anyone interested in placing
their old clothing up for recycling can participate.
There will be no cost to those individuals offering
clothing for donation, whilst all “sales” will
go towards supporting our Trans community with all
profits donated to organisations such FTM Australia. This
is a not-for-profit project. Any income generated goes
straight back to our community.
While FTM Australia has donated the space for this
project, this is entirely my own project. You are assured
of complete respect and confidentiality.
